Artworks from the exhibition “Adevarata fericire e o sincera iubire” held in Bucharest, October 2018, as a protest against the Referendum regarding the definition of the family in the Romanian Constitution. The referendum asked the voters whether or not they approve a change to the family's definition as provided by Article 48 of the Constitution, to prohibit same-sex marriage.
The exhibition takes as starting point a traditional object - PARETARUL - present in many households, a symbol of the heterosexual love and domestic “bliss” of the Romanian family. With these embroideries I’m trying to reimagine the traditional cliches of how a family should be. I’m playing with reinforced images of heteronormative symbols and offer a more inclusive, tolerant and open perspective on love and family.
